New Era University (NEU)Philippines, run by the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC). Its main campus is in 9 Central Avenue, New Era, Quezon City, in the Central Office Complex of the INC. It has several campuses around the Philippines, including City of San Fernando, Pampanga, in Lipa City, Batangas and in General Santos City, South Cotabato.
The High School Department started operating with 23 faculty members and 466 enrolees. On June 6, 1977 the NEEI was formally incorporated under Republic Act 1459 as a private, non-stock, non-sectarian, non-profit educational institution, applying Christian principles. It also offered Graduate courses. During school year 1977-78 the Institution branched out to vocational and technical courses. The Institute began its collegiate department in 1978 offering nine courses, six of which are leading to bachelor's degree.
The opening of the collegiate department necessitated the expansion of the school's buildings. In June 1978, the collegiate department transferred to a modern four-story edifice along Commonwealth Avenue in Diliman, Quezon City. This was called the Evangelical College (EVCO) building. It had been serving as learning center for would-be ministers of the Iglesia Ni Cristo. In 1981, it was renamed New Era College after the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports (MECS)granted collegiate status, and later in June 1995, to its present name, New Era University, when the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) granted university status. In 1982, seven years after its establishment, the College first conferred the degree of Bachelor of Science (in Psychology, Industrial Education and in Business Administration) on twelve graduates.
In 1982, New Era College held its first commencement exercise and conferred the degree of Bachelor of Science in Psychology, Industrial Education, and Business Administration on twelve graduates.
The Graduate School was established during the school year 1983-1984 offering the course masters of Arts in college Teaching. The programs Bachelor of Elementary Education and Bachelor of Secondary Education also started this year. And in 1984, New Era College opened its Preschool and Elementary Department.
On May 10, 1986, Eraño G. Manalo inaugurated the new and permanent campus of New Era College along St. Joseph St., Milton Hills Subdivision in Diliman, Quezon City. In view of the peace and order problems surrounding the vicinity of the Manila campus, the High School Department and Non-Formal Education unit transferred to the new campus in Diliman. This brought together all the departments of the College under the new four-storey building. [1] By that year, the school was complete with elementary school, high school, four collegiate institutes, and one graduate institute.
On June 30, 1995 New Era College was granted University status under the name New Era University by the DECS Secretary and Chairman of the Commission on Higher Education, Dr. Ricardo T. Gloria
It is still run by Iglesia Ni Cristo for the educational needs of the members although it does accept enrollments from non-members as well. Under the university umbrella, it runs the College of Evangelical Ministry, where Iglesia Ni Cristo trains male members to become ministers.
Other colleges include the College of Engineering and Technology, College of Nursing, College of Business Administration, College of Arts and Sciences, and the College of Education, and also the College of Law and School of Graduate studies.
